Temperament (verse IV)

Every morning, it seems I drink
        double the coffee of the previous week
Today it tastes twice as pathetic
The strawberries in the kitchen are
        almost a remedy
Sitting on the counter, a luscious scarlet intensity
        against a patent background
        looking like ambrosia
It’s the greatest fix I’ll get all day
